Mysore Bonda

Mysore Bonda

Ingredients:

1 cup urad dal (soaked overnight)
1.5 tsp cumin seeds
2-3 tbsp of rice flour
2-3 green chillies chopped
1 tbsp chopped ginger
1 tsp crushed black pepper
1/4 cup chopped coconut
1/4 tsp hing (asafoetida)
8-10 curry leaves chopped
Salt as per taste
Water
Oil to deep fry

Method:

  • Soak the urad dal overnight & grind to a fine paste with a little water the next morning. The paste should be thick enough to hold & not runny.
  • Transfer the ground paste to a bowl & mix all the other ingredients mentioned above. Mix the paste using a whisk or your hand to form a thick batter. You will notice a few bubbles beginning to form. Let it rest for 15-20 mins.
  • Meanwhile on medium to low flame, heat enough oil in a wok or pot to deep fry the bonda. Once the oil is hot enough drop a spoonful of the batter. The bondas should rise to the top once they are done. Fry till you have the desired color & repeat till you are done with the batter.
  • Serve hot with sambar & coconut chutney.
