Mangalorean Chicken Curry

Ingredients:
500 gms chicken pieces
1 onion sliced
1 tsp cumin seeds
7-8 curry leaves
2-3 dried red chillies
1 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp black pepper powder
1 tsp garam masala
1/2″ ginger
5-6 garlic
1/2 cup coconut grated chicken
Salt
Oil
Marinate for chicken:
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric
1 tbsp lime juice
1 tsp ginger garlic paste

Method:

  • In a bowl coat the chicken in the ingredients mentioned for the marinate with some salt & let it rest for 15-20 mins.
  • Heat oil in a pan on medium flame & add cumin seeds. Once they splutter add in the curry leaves, ginger, garlic & dried red chillies.
  • Now add the sliced onions & saute till translucent.  Once soft add in the coconut & fry till aromatic. Make sure the coconut doesn’t burn.
  • To this add the remaining powdered spices- garam masala, black pepper & coriander powder. Saute till fragrant & add the chicken.
  • Mix together, add salt & 1/2 cup of water. Cover & cook for 15-20 mins or till chicken is cooked.
  • Serve hot with akki roti or steamed rice.
